28 stylish Halloween costumes inspired by TV and film
What are you dressing up as for Halloween? If you’re still dithering on costumes, why not look to TV and film for a dose of spooky inspiration? The past few years have provided a wealth of new material — think Gal Gadot’s (2017), Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven in (2016) and the villainous Harley Quinn in (2016) with her pink, dip-dyed bunches, as played by Margot Robbie. Or, if you want to go for a more vintage look, dust off your trusty skirt suit and trim it with crows to channel Tippi Hedren in (1963).
Leather offers all sorts of inspiration. Lap it up like Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman in (1992) or cause a storm in a cape akin to Halle Berry’s character (2000). Papier-mâché can make for the most magnificent (2014) latex-wrapped horns — as modelled on Angelina Jolie (above) — or craft a red wig like Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy in (1997) to cause a real sting. And if you have a partner in crime, make a muse of Faye Dunaway’s (1967) in a bandit beret and bandana scarf — or you could slip into pale blue dresses and hair slides (this season’s biggest beauty gems) like 1980’s twins.
Looking back at the classics, Christina Ricci’s Wednesday Addams from (1991) has it all tied-up with her signature sharp-collared dress and braids, as does blood-splattered, slicked-down-haired Sissy Spacek in (1976). And for the fearless? A killer clown from (2017), with a requisite red balloon, or a chilling Freddy Krueger in a fedora hat and red-and-black striped knit from (1984).
Here, rounds up the best TV and film characters to inspire your Halloween costume.
