Why Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have split

One of Hollywood’s longtime couples, Miley Cyrus, 26, and Liam Hemsworth, 29, have split. The couple met when they were both teens on the set of 2010’s The Last Song and in an interview with GQ earlier this year, Hemsworth shared how it was pretty much love at first sight. “We fell in love quickly and had a really strong connection from the beginning,” the 29-year-old actor said.

Hemsworth and Cyrus waited to tie the knot until last year, when they married in a private ceremony on December 23 at their Nashville home. Since the wedding the couple have appeared to have been on cloud nine, gushing about each other at various red carpet events and Cyrus had changed her name to Miley Ray Hemsworth, which Liam shared during an appearance of back in February.

However, despite all signs pointing to wedding bliss, according to People, the couple have made the decision to split. Per the publication, although fans are shocked, a source revealed that it wasn’t a big surprise to those close to the star and the singer. “This split isn’t shocking to people who are actually with them every day,” a source reportedly told People.

Since they started dating a decade ago, the couple have had some time apart and the source noted that even though this time when they got back together and got married, they still had issues that hadn’t been resolved. “After they reunited, everyone thought they were this ‘perfect’ couple, but they still had a lot of issues. They’re not on the same page when it comes to a lot of fundamental things that make a relationship work,” the source said. Adding: “It’s [their split] is not surprising at all.”

People reports a representative for Cyrus confirmed the couple’s break-up in a statement. “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy,” the statement said per People.

The publication reports hours prior to the confirmation of the couple’s split, Cyrus was reportedly photographed kissing Brody Jenner’s ex-wife Kaitlynn Carter. Cyrus and Carter have been holidaying in Italy with Cyrus’s sister, Brandi, and look to be having a ball if their multiple social media posts are anything to go by. Brandi posted a pic of the three of them with the caption “Girls Trip”, while Carter posted a snap with herself and Miley on a boat with the caption: “rock the boat, don’t rock the boat baby”. 

The girls’ trip hasn’t gone unnoticed, Carter’s ex-husband, Brody Jenner, commented on Carter’s post “Hot girl summer”.

Cyrus has also shared multiple pics of the vacation, looking to be enjoying herself despite what’s happened with Hemsworth.
