When rumours began in July 2018 that Justin Bieber was engaged to Hailey Baldwin, we weren’t sure what to think. The couple seemed to have only been dating for a matter of weeks and there weren’t any signs pointing to an engagement that we could have foreseen. However, Bieber confirmed the engagement just days later on Instagram, calling Baldwin “the love of my life”.
Then, in September, the pair were seen exiting a New York City courthouse, having obtained a marriage license. The news of their nuptials was sealed with a series of romantic Instagrams, amongst them an image of the newlyweds with the caption ‘My wife is awesome’ posted to the popstar’s account. And, in keeping with the Hollywood trend of multiple weddings, following their courthouse marriage, the Biebers have since revealed a second, more lavish affair is definitely on the cards.

As we wait for what is perhaps the most hotly anticipated celebrity wedding of the year, Vogue unpacks everything we know about their upcoming nuptials.
The singer asked the model to marry him while on holidays in the Bahamas. Bieber, 24, got down on one knee and popped the question to Baldwin, 21, in front of a restaurant full of guests at their oceanside resort, who were instructed by his security guards to put their phones away as “something special was about to happen.” Bieber then confirmed the news just days later on Instagram on July 10, 2018 saying: “Was gonna wait a while to say anything but word travels fast. Listen plain and simple Hailey I am soooo in love with everything about you! So committed to spending my life getting to know every single part of you loving you patiently and kindly.”
Bieber chose a large oval cut diamond ring set in 18 karat yellow gold by Jack Solow of Solow & Co. Inc. Diamond Jewelers. The jeweller has since spoken out about making the ring, confirming Bieber selected the ring himself. “He had certain design elements that he wanted and he had certain expectations and I think we delivered.” The jeweller confirmed Bieber began with the diamond and worked around it, with the designer even confirming he personally delivered the ring to the singer the morning the couple left for the Bahamas. Bieber also reportedly asked Hailey Baldwin’s father, Stephen, for permission before proposing.
On January 24, TMZ reported the couple had postponed their wedding until further notice. Just one week earlier, Page Six revealed that the couple had set a date, with a source saying the pair had sent family and friends a ‘save the date’ invitation with an original date of February 28, 2019 decided as the big day.
However, now TMZ has reported the official celebration will unfold on September 30, confirming a new ‘save the date’ has been sent out to guests.
Back in 2018, a source told Us Weekly the couple was planning a “very small” wedding, “something private, intimate,” with the location being somewhere in Canada. “Justin loves Canada and is at home there. It’s a special place for him and he’d love to get married there,” the source said.
As per TMZ, it was reported on August 23 that the Biebers are set to wed in South Carolina instead, despite the popstar’s connections to Canada, where he grew up. Earlier this month, the couple were seen taking in the sights of Palmetto Bluff, a luxury estate that boasts riverside views, horseriding trails and traditional Southern cuisines.
Hailey’s aunt, Kim Basinger, revealed to Us Weekly that Baldwin has already selected her bridal party and confirmed her own daughter, Ireland Baldwin, Hailey’s cousin, will be a bridesmaid, as will the bride’s sister Alaia. “Oh, it’ll be fun. Alaia and Ireland, they’re in the wedding. So believe me, I just — it’s cool! I think it’s sweet. It’s a very sweet thing.”
No word on this yet but we can imagine the guest list will read like a Met Gala red carpet. Between Bieber and Baldwin, we can expect Kardashians, Jenners, Hadids and anyone in the same orbit as Scooter Braun, Bieber’s manager–think Ariana Grande, for example.
According to TMZ, the couple have been in talks with celebrity wedding planner Mindy Weiss, who will reportedly oversee the grand affair, and boasts a rolodex of celebrity clients from Ellen DeGeneres to Katy Perry.
According to Page Six, Bieber’s personal DJ, DJ Tay James, will be providing the entertainment on the big day. Post Malone has also told TMZ that he hopes to play a role in the wedding–whether it be performing or playing a role in the bridal party. “I would love to perform. For free. I’ll be the flower boy or is that the ring bearer? He’s very happy and I love to see my boy happy.”
