Everyone has fallen into a deep, wonderful Pinterest abyss at some point. Whether you were planning a wedding, a haircut, a child’s birthday cake or a new kitchen reno, it’s a common modern experience to type something into that innocent little ‘P’ search bar and lose an entire afternoon of your life. Quite happily.

Over 250 million people log on to Pinterest each month, which gives their analytics team an extraordinary insight into what people are researching visually. So how do they determine whether something is trending? It has to keep getting more and more searches for six months in a row (or longer).

This year’s list of the biggest Pinterest trends for homes contains some old faithfuls, like vertical gardens and succulents, as well as some new movers and shakers, like painting bold colours over wooden parquet floors and using fabric as wallpaper.

Scroll down to see the top Pinterest decorating trends, counted down from 10 to one.
