Karim Benzema on Antoine Griezmann: “I gave him some advice.”

Speaking in an extensive, explosive interview with L’Équipe, Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema discussed a number of topics including Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann.

“We get on well. He is someone who I like. I do not want to speak for him, but, when he arrived in the French national team, things were not going very well for him at the start of his career with Atletico Madrid. I gave him some advice. I have always had a good relationship with him, on the pitch and off of it. It continues. We do not live far away from each other. We played some matches together, the World Cup in Brazil in 2014, and things were starting to click. In the last game we played together against Armenia, there was even more chemistry. Of course it is frustrating not to have been able to continue to refine this relationship.”

Would you like him to join you at Real Madrid?

“The problem is where would he play, in which position in our current team? He is an excellent player, a great at Atletico, but where would he play at Real Madrid? Our style of play is also different to Atletico’s.”
