ITV election debate news LIVE: Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn set to face off in leaders debate

Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn will tout their leadership credentials as their rivalry comes to a head in a TV face-off tonight.

The Tory leader and his Labour counterpart will debate each other on ITV at 8pm, in the first televised leadership debate of the election campaign.

It comes as the Conservatives vowed to legislate to ensure adults convicted of murdering a child spend the rest of their life in prison. Meanwhile, Labour has accused the Tories of handing tax breaks to billionaires and blasted them for doing so, saying such levels of wealth are “obscene”.

The Greens are also set to release a climate-focused manifesto today, as the Lib Dems pledged to put 1p on income tax to provide an additional £35 billion for the NHS.
