PM Modi Scraps I&B Ministry’s Proposed Punishment For Fake News, Only Press Council Will Decide What To Do

Facing flak from all corners, the Information and Broadcasting ministry has withdrawn its order which had prescribed strict action against journalists spreading “fake news”. The I&B Ministry’s decision came after the PMO reportedly expressed displeasure over the order which many journalists and opposition said is regressive.

According to reports, Prime Minister had “directed that the press release regarding fake news be withdrawn and the matter should only be addressed in Press Council of India”.
