In celebration of Meghan Markle’s 38th birthday on August 4, Queen Elizabeth II has invited the family of three to join her at her Balmoral estate, her favourite home (yes, she has multiple) in the Scottish highlands. Yes, baby Archie is heading on his very first holiday.
This heartfelt gesture is the equivalent to your grandmother inviting you to her stay at summer holiday home with her, except this invite has come from The Queen, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be staying in a castle.

“The Queen and Prince Philip adore the couple and, of course, their new great-grandson Archie, and they have invited them to Balmoral for a few days,” a source told The Sun. “It is testament to Meghan that she has been given this invite. It’s a huge honour.”
As for why the invitation to stay at Balmoral Castle is such an honour? It is a well known fact that the privately-owned estate, which is not part of the Crown Estate, is one of The Queen’s favourite hideaways. Therefore, the opportunity to join her there is a noteworthy one.
“Meghan may be a duchess who can have anything she wants but the Queen is giving her a thoughtful present,” says the source. “It’s no secret Balmoral is Her Majesty’s favourite home and that’s why this invite is so special and heartfelt.”
Originally bought for Queen Victoria by Prince Albert in 1852, the Scottish castle, which the Monarch holidays at every summer, sits on acres and acres of land populated with horses and cattle. Ponies and plenty of space to play? It sounds like the perfect location for Archie to take his very first trip to.
The mysterious source also added that the family will be staying in their own wing of the Scottish castle – a wise choice given that they will be travelling with a newborn baby. On top of that, the royals are also said to be sitting down to traditional afternoon tea with The Queen at some point over the course of their stay, and celebrating Markle’s birthday with a cake. Sounds like a fine celebration to us.
