FIGURE FOUR WEEKLY: Figure Four Weekly 10/9/2017: Recapping WWE Hell in a Cell
With WWE having an annual pay-per-view built around multiple Hell in a Cell matches, it’s only natural that they mostly just become standard matches that are surrounded by a roofed cage. But that wasn’t the case at this year’s PPV. Sunday night’s show was bookended by two great Hell in a Cell matches where the structure was essential in telling the story that was going on in the ring.

WON BACK ISSUE: September 25, 2000 Wrestling Observer Newsletter: WWF moving to Viacom, WCW Fall Brawl reviewed, more
The Delaware Supreme Court on 9/18 ruled 3-0 not to overturn the Chancery Court ruling that the WWF would be able to accept the Viacom deal, and thus ending its 17-year relationship with the USA Network. The decision was more than one month in the making, which left much of the entire pro wrestling industry, and both networks, paralyzed to an extent, certainly as it pertained to wrestling programming.

MONDAY NEWS UPDATE

Melvin Nelson, who wrestled in the 60s, 70s and 80s as Burrhead Jones, passed away last night at the age of 80 in a New York Hospital. He often teamed with Rufus R. Jones. He was mostly a prelim wrestler but had a 1976 angle with Blackjack Mulligan in the Carolinas that was famous to older fans. He was very close with Mike Mooneyham of the Charleston Post-Courier. Mooneyham’s story is here.
This can all change, and last week there were a ton of changes, but planned as of this morning for Raw was Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman in a cage match, Strowman on Miz TV, Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins vs. Cesaro & Sheamus in a tag team title match and Strowman on Miz TV. It’s the go-home show for Hell in a Cell, so I would expect the cage match to feature some kind of an angle. Game three of the New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros series goes head-to-head against Raw, as does the Indianapolis Colts vs. Tennessee Titans football game.
