Bali occupies a special spot in the hearts of most Australians who’ve been there. So what to tackle first on this peaceful island? A word of advice for first timers: don’t get stuck in the trap of just hitting up Seminyak or Canggu. Sure, they’re full of incredible cafés, restaurants and nightlife, but if you venture beyond the pretty venues, you’ll discover a whole other world of rice paddy fields (Ubud), temples (Tanah Lot), rocky cliffs (Nusa Penida), quiet surf breaks (Bingin Beach), waterfalls and dreamy islands perfect for day trips and weekenders (Gili Air, Nusa Lembongan, Lombok).
