This is how Jennifer Lopez makes 50 look like the new 25
Singer, actress, producer, dancer, fashion icon and mother-of-two, Jennifer Lopez, has packed a lot into her life so far. And yet, even though the Jenny from the Block singer recently turned 50 (and celebrated in dazzling style with a party for 250 friends), she doesn’t look a day over 25.
Where are the stress-induced crows feet and worry lines on the singer’s visage? The usual visible road map of someone who has worked as hard as JLo and achieved so much? They’re nowhere. The powerhouse entertainer is enviably ageless, with the smooth, glowing fresh-faced looks of a person half her age.
While the actress has never given too much away about her eternally youthful looks, over the years she has dropped a few important beauty and healthy living tips, which we have rounded up in honour of the star’s 50th birthday.

Adequate sleep
In an interview with People back in 2016, Lopez revealed that sleep is key to the entire Lopez beauty operation. “I try to always get as much sleep as I can so that I can start the day well rested,” the actress told the publication.
Since that interview, the adequate sleep tip has been a recurring theme any time Lopez is asked how she looks darn good. “The number one tip is to always get enough sleep,” the singer told Instyle in an interview in March 2018. “I can’t stress this enough. Ideally I would love to get nine or 10 hours of sleep, but either way, I always make sure I get at least eight.”
Affirmations and meditation
In addition to getting enough sleep, in the 2016 interview with People, the Love Don’t Cost a Thing singer revealed that after a good night’s sleep, she likes to start the day in a calm state with “morning meditation and affirmations.”
She reiterated this again during the Instyle interview, saying, “I definitely think beauty comes from within — you have to keep your mind, soul, body and spirit in sync. I am a firm believer in meditating and when you are happy and feel joy and love, you radiate beauty.”
As for what affirmations Lopez repeats, speaking to Harper’s Bazaar in 2018 Lopez declared that she takes her cues from Jane Fonda’s attitude to ageing and wills herself young.“I am youthful and timeless. I tell myself that every day, a few times a day. It sounds like clichéd bullshit, but it’s not: age is all in your mind. Look at Jane Fonda.”
Regular exercise
JLo has a body the envy of most people on the planet, she’s fiercely fit and able to dance for hours on stage without seeming to break a sweat. But this level of fitness doesn’t come easy. Lopez works hard at it, regularly training and rarely missing a workout.
“It’s no secret that I love dancing, so it doesn’t even feel like exercise to me. I freestyle dance with Tracy Anderson five times a week. We’ll incorporate light weights… for the arms and moves that focus on the butt and thighs and engage the core,” the actress told People. “I also do circuit training with David Kirsch when I’m in New York. We do hour-long circuits at least three times a week. Its full-body training — so planks, push ups, boxing — really everything. It’s all about changing it up and keeping your body guessing.”
“Very rarely will I skip my workout,” Lopez told Us Weekly in an interview in 2015. “Sometimes, I work too late the night before and I’m like, ‘Ugh, I can’t do this.’ But I tell myself, ‘Just do it. It’s only an hour.’ It’s just talking yourself off the ledge of being a lazy bum.”
No caffeine or alcohol
“I follow a healthy diet and don’t drink, smoke, or have any caffeine,” Lopez told Instyle in March 2018.
Make-up free bedtime and moisturisation
The 50-year-old is vigilant about taking her make-up off and keeping her skin moisturised telling People as much in 2016. “I never go to bed without taking my make-up off, [and I use] night creams to keep my skin hydrated.”
Glycolic acid glow
To get the “JLo glow” the star revealed to People that she loves “glycolic acid to get that healthy glow and clear skin.”
Sun protection
Lopez is also a big believer in protecting her skin from the sun. “SPF is key,” she said during her People interview, telling the publication she uses SPF “every single day.” She also stays out of the sun as much as possible: “I try not to stay out in the sun too long,” the actress noted to Instyle.
Healthy eating and hydration
JLo also credits drinking lots of water and eating fresh, healthy food for her radiant skin. “I think drinking lots of water and fresh foods with lots of fruits and vegetables… all play into the quality of [the] skin’s appearance,” Lopez told People.
Tress care
“I like to treat myself to a hair-care regimen and deep conditioning mask a few times a week,” the star told Instyle.

Consistent healthy lifestyle
Importantly, Lopez says how she looks is the result of living a consistently healthy lifestyle. “I’ve taken care of myself, and now it shows,” she said to Instyle in an interview in October 2018.
Lopez’s fiancé, Alex Rodriguez, confirmed his bride-to-be’s commitment to a wholesome lifestyle in an interview in 2018 saying, “She really leans into the big fundamentals, like getting her rest, eight to 10 hours. She doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke. She lives a very clean life.”
