After Cyclone Fani Destroyed Their Home, This Odisha Family Is Forced To Live In Toilet
Cyclone Fani left a huge trail of destruction in Odisha and people there are still trying to come to terms with the damage caused. Khirod Jena, a 59-year-old resident of Raghudeipur village under Derabishi block of Kendrapada has been living in his toilet since May 3, when Cyclone Fani ripped through the coastal district.
The cyclone – which had an impact on 1,019 villages in 207 gram panchayats and 41 municipality wards – blew away the thatched roof of the Jenas’ mud-walled house, before the rain it brought in its wake caused sections of the hut itself to collapse.
Khirod, his wife and two daughters have been living in the ‘pucca’ toilet since then, after having stuffed a piece of cloth into the pan to make the living conditions bearable.
