Analysis: Has Kim Jong-un managed to force a wedge between US and South Korea?

US Vice-President Mike Pence appears to be making a habit of controversial appearances at sports events.

After his staged walk-out at an American football game in October, on Friday it was the turn of US ally, South Korea, to feel the brunt of his pointed political point-scoring.

On Sunday, however, Mr Pence insisted “there is no daylight” between the US and its ally, Seoul, over how to handle Pyongyang, but his actions in South Korea this weekend tell a very different story.

As VIP leaders at the opening ceremony of the Pyeongchang Olympics rose to their feet to welcome a joint Korean team under a unified flag, the stone-faced vice-president remained seated, just a few feet from Kim Jong-un’s…
