Augustana’s Amo and Wahlstrom Take First at the Warrior-Viking Open

Anderson Notches 100th Career Win

FREMONT, Neb. – The Augustana wrestling team put on a good showing at the Warrior-Viking Open in Fremont, Neb. on Saturday. Aero Amo and Clayton Wahlstrom each took first place to lead the Vikings. The Vikings had nine of their 19 wrestlers place in the top-three in their final open of the regular season.

Amo breezed through the 184 pound bracket with three first period pins. Amo improved to 22-4 on the season and has a team-high 11 pins.

Wahlstrom went 3-0 at 197 pounds and none of his matches were ever in doubt. Wahlstrom won his first match on the day by a major decision and defeated a pair of Nebraska-Kearney wrestlers in the semifinals and the finals to take the crown at 197. Wahlstrom improves to 9-3 on the year.

Jacob Anderson took second place at 149 pounds, but achieved a milestone victory in the semifinals. Anderson picked up his 100th win in his Augustana career with his victory over Sean Glasgow of Chadron State. Anderson finished the open with a 3-1 record improving to 10-6 on the season.

Brandon Carroll, wrestling unattached, took second at 125 pounds. Carroll recorded a pin in the quarterfinals and a major decision in the semifinals.

Tyler Nation finished in second at 157 pounds. Nation went 2-1 at the open only falling to No. 1 Destin McCauley of Nebraska-Kearney in the finals. Nation improves to 9-8 on the season.

Regan Bye took second at 165 pounds in his first action for Augustana. Bye wrestled at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln last year, before transferring to Augustana. Bye finished the open 2-1.

Brandon Charbonneau (133), Bruce Lemon Jr. (165) and Ben Goodwin (197) each took third place.

Next up for the Vikings will be their first NSIC dual of the season against No. 7 Northern State. The dual will be held in Aberdeen, S.D. on Jan. 7 at 7 p.m.
