Cantina Talk: Here Is All of Star Wars in Just 5 Minutes
After what seemed like the motherlode of Episode IX information last time, we're back to relative silence about Star Wars' next cinematic installment. Maybe that's because principal photography on the movie is wrapping right now, meaning the production is moving into its next phase. And, as if the release of both Episode IX and The Mandalorian aren't just months away, there's a convention hitting Chicago in mere weeks, so it's not like there's nothing going on. But while Lucasfilm prepares new marvels with which to dazzle fans, here's all the other news that's come out of the studio over the last couple weeks.
It Only Takes 5 Minutes to Advertise All of Star Wars
The Source: That dude from That '70s Show, amazingly
Probability of Accuracy: It's as accurate as a fan trailer can be.
The Real Deal: Star Wars took over social media last week with the release of Star Wars: Always, a fan-edited trailer for the entire series of live-action movies to date.
It was something that captured the hearts of many fans and was widely shared and lauded across the internet. The strangest thing about it? That it was the work, in part, of actor Topher Grace, who's something of a massive Star Wars fan. How much? Well, a few years back, he reedited the entire prequel trilogy into one movie under the title Star Wars: Episode III.5: The Editor Strikes Back. Clearly, someone at Lucasfilm needs to give this man a job, if only because it took him only five minutes to remind everyone why they loved these movies in the first place.
There Might Be a Lot of Star Wars Streaming in the Future
The Source: An anonymous source revealing things to a relatively unknown outlet
Probability of Accuracy: There are plenty of warning signs that this isn't entirely legit, so take it with a grain of salt for now.
The Real Deal: Two live-action Star Wars shows are already in the works for Disney's forthcoming streaming service Disney+, but is it possible even more are on the way? A report from the fairly obscure HN Entertainment
suggests there are quite a few on the way, with series apparently under discussion for a number of characters in the franchise's canon, including Rose Tico, Captain Phasma, the Knights of Ren, a young Princess Leia and, curiously enough, Darth Bane—a character who has never appeared onscreen before, having only been referenced in the prequel trilogy. Given the relatively unknown nature of the outlet—and the obviously anonymous nature of the source—it's more than possible that this report is as much wishful thinking as it is factual, but one thing's for sure: A Rose Tico series would be absolutely incredible.
Star Wars Fashion for All
The Source: An official, somewhat small, Disney reveal
Probability of Accuracy: The next season's looks are very clearly real.
The Real Deal: The opening of the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge attractions are still some time away, but Disney is already unveiling the costumes that'll be worn at the Disney parks spaces, offering a few hints about what attendees will see when they visit the planet Batuu. The answer is, unsurprisingly, "very Star Wars-esque."
The first Galaxy's Edge opens at Disneyland in California this summer.
These Are the Games You're Looking For
The Source: Official teases from Lucasfilm for the upcoming Star Wars Celebration event
Probability of Accuracy: Right on target.
The Real Deal: Lucasfilm is starting to reveal the first details of the upcoming videogame Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order ahead of its planned debut at Star Wars Celebration this April. The game, set between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, will follow a sole Padawan who survived Order 66, aka the Emperor's attempt to slaughter all of the Jedi in the galaxy. More will be revealed during a Saturday afternoon panel at Celebration, but it won't be the only game represented at the show: Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes and Star Wars Pinball will both be available to play on the exhibition floor, and Star Wars: The Old Republic is also slated to have a mysterious special event, the details of which remain under wraps for now.
Learn How to Use Your Lightsaber Properly
The Source: Hasbro
Probability of Accuracy: It's an official product announcement, so this is totally legit.
The Real Deal: For everyone wishing that they'd had the chance to be properly trained to use their lightsabers as a kid, Hasbro had some good news at the recent Toy Fair New York: Star Wars Lightsaber Academy is a toy-and-app combo package that will let an app track your proficiency with the preferred weapon of the Jedi via a Bluetooth-enabled lightsaber, with character voices and sound effects also available. It'll be one of many Star Wars items released October 4, as part of what is being called Triple Force Friday, in which merchandise from Star Wars: Episode IX, The Mandalorian, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be released en masse across the world. None of your budgets are ready.
