MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team held a 7-3 lead after three weight classes, but Concordia College won the final seven in earning a 28-7 nonconference dual wins over the Dragons on Tuesday night at Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, Minn.

MSUM fell to 5-8 overall while Concordia, ranked No. 8 in the latest Division III poll, improved to 14-4 on the season.

“Overall we wrestled hard,” MSUM head coach Kris Nelson said. “They took more shots and were more aggressive then we were. And they won a couple of close matches.”

The dual got off to a promising start for the Dragons as freshman Blake Bosch controlled the match at 125 in earning a 10-4 win over Gabe Foltz.

“Blake Bosch gave a good effort,” Nelson said. “He controlled the match for seven minutes.”

Concordia tied the match at 3-3 with a win at 133, but senior Connor MacGregor put MSUM back in front with an 8-0 major decision win over Yonas Gebreab at 141 pounds. That gave MSUM a 7-3 lead.

“Connor MacGregor did a really good job stepping in,” Nelson said.

The Cobbers tied the dual at seven apiece when Jake Long beat MSUM freshman Garret Hoffner but major decision (13-4) at 149 pounds.

Concordia won the next three matches by decision to build a 16-7 lead. At 184 pounds, the match was close as Dragon senior Matt Lewellen battled Chris Harrison tough, but Harrison recorded two escapes in a 2-0 win to push Concordia’s lead to 19-7.

The Cobbers won by decision at 197 and by fall at 285 to make the final count 28-7.

The Cobbers will have a seven-day break before finishing off the “regular season” when they host Minnesota rival St. John’s in a dual match on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.

MSUM is back in action on Thursday at home against Minot State. The dual begins at 7 p.m. at Nemzek Fieldhouse.
