ANTIOCH, TN — A football game at Antioch High School turned violent Saturday when a man, who was upset following an altercation between players on the field, shot the coach of one of the teams. The coach, 42, is recovering from two bullet wounds in his right leg, police said in a release.

Police say the coach had broken up a fight between two players, one from his team and the other on the opposing team. The suspect, apparently the father of one of the players in the scuffle, was upset that the coach had touched his son, WSMV reported witnesses as saying.

The suspect asked the coach to meet him under the bleachers, police said. The coach told police he agreed, and once they were there, the suspect pulled out a pistol and began shooting.

The gunman is described as a black man in his mid-30s, was wearing a white sleeveless shirt and shorts, possibly camouflage pattern, and has tattoos on his cheek and forehead, police say.

WSMV reports the football game was not connected to Metro Nashville Public Schools.

The suspect is still at large.
