Gwyneth Paltrow and this Norwegian princess might be the unlikely BFFs we never knew we needed

Fresh off the back of Beyoncé and Meghan Markle connecting at premiere in London this week, we now have another new royal pairing to keep tabs on.

Gwyneth Paltrow, who is essentially wellness royalty thanks to her million-dollar beauty business Goop, has connected with Princess Märtha Louise, the daughter of the current King of Norway.

Princess Märtha Louise, 47, is the eldest daughter of King Harald V and Queen Sonja, but due to gender lineage laws at her time of birth, her younger brother, Crown Prince Haakon was named the future heir instead. Now that her brother has children of his own, Princess Märtha Louise is fourth in line to the Norwegian throne (similar to Prince Harry’s standing in the British royal family).

So why was this royal brushing shoulders with Paltrow? Princess Märtha Louise posted a selfie to her Instagram account, explaining she recently met Paltrow in the Hamptons, and calling her “a gift.” 

“Meeting amazing people that make us grow is such a gift of life, don’t you think? Meeting @gwynethpaltrow was such a gift,” the caption on the picture says. “Your wisdom, strength, your clear vision and soft personality with a great sense of humor is so inspiring. Thank you for being who you are and for receiving us all with open arms. So looking forward to our next encounter. Who inspires you to grow?” She also hashtagged the words #newfriends and #inspiring.

The connection between Paltrow and the princess is actually via Princess Märtha Louise’s new boyfriend, a shaman named Durek. Princess Märtha Louise announced her new relationship with the American spiritual guide and healer, in May. Shaman Durek is one of Paltrow’s go-to energy healers in Los Angeles – he even has a bio page on her Goop website.

While Paltrow and the princess seem like rather an unlikely pairing, it makes sense, given Princess Märtha Louise’s new venture into wellness and spirituality, thanks to her shaman boyfriend. Prior to meeting him, her divorce from her husband, writer Ari Behn, was finalised. The couple announced they would be splitting back in 2016.

Now that Paltrow is running in royal circles, we’ll add her and the princess alongside Beyoncé and the Duchess of Sussex as one of our favourite royal pairings.
