Is there anyone — apart from Dr Seuss’s classic anti-festive fictional character the Grinch — who, if they were being 100 per cent honest, wouldn’t admit to liking at least one holiday movie? The festive film genre really is one genre that truly transcends age, gender and viewing preferences, offering something that will charm, delight and entertain each and every person.
From beloved holiday comedies like Elf and Home Alone to rom-coms like The Holiday and Love Actually, that are watched on repeat every year over the holiday season, or even the best worst offerings like Netflix’s The Princess Switch and A Christmas Prince, festive films are a viewing gift that just keep on giving year after year.
Of course, there is always room for new entrants into the ranks of our favourites, especially if they’re tinsel-filled heartwarming rom-coms such as the forthcoming Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding-starring Last Christmas or Disney’s upcoming laugh-out-loud holiday comedy, Noelle, starring Pitch Perfect’s Anna Kendrick.
Fans of Kendrick’s comedic talent and singing skills will be especially excited about the star’s forthcoming film because, from the recently-released trailer which Disney + debuted at its D23 Expo, it looks like she calls on both, extensively.
In the film, Kendrick plays Noelle Kringle, the daughter of Kris Kringle and like Will Ferrell’s character in Elf, her character appears to be the festive season come to life — personifying all the best, jolliest, sparkliest parts about this wonderful time of year. And, she is able to show off all her Christmas spirit when her brother, played by Bill Hader, is tasked with taking over from their father to become the new Santa Claus, but disappears from the North Pole, leaving Noelle (Kendrick) responsible for saving Christmas.
Naturally a Christmas miracle is required and that miracle is Noelle embarking on a madcap adventure to track her errant brother down.
According to the caption accompanying the trailer, the movie will be streaming on Disney + on November 12, no news if that’s an air date that includes Australia, but check back here, we’ll update this story with a confirmed air date.
Until then, feel free to watch the trailer for Noelle on repeat, below.
