This year marks the 10th anniversary of Vogue Talents, the brilliant program inaugurated by Vogue Italia that has been driven for a decade by the vision of the late Franca Sozzani—Vogue Italia’s former editor-in-chief, from 1988 to 2016—ideated during its conception

Since its beginnings, the roll call of designers and brands that have emerged from it, and have flourished through its caring hands and vision, could not be more impressive, with JW Anderson, Simone Rocha, Sara Battaglia, Aquazurra and so many more passing through the program.

“Talent is essential, but it’s not enough”, says Emanuele Farneti, the editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia, who believes that even those with raw skill still need encouragement, guidance and experience behind them to success.

“An idea must come at the right time, but more than anything it must be translated into practical form with courage, hard work, dedication, determination and constancy. Since well before scouting became fashionable and competitions and awards started to proliferate all over the world, Vogue Italia has been searching for talent – in fashion, in photography; these days in writing too – as one of its founding principles. Our task is to offer talented people an opportunity. Good timing and plenty of work will lead to tomorrow’s success.”

Of course, we couldn’t agree more. After all, what is our industry about if not supporting each other, particularly when it comes to supporting and nurturing fledgling talent?

As part of the 10 years of Vogue Talents celebration, Vogue Italia staged a retrospective at Milan’s incredible Palazzo Cusani—a structure which dates back to 1719—which will showcased 70 designers who have helped make Vogue Talents history.

The retrospective was exuberant, fashion immersive, layered, with so many endeavours and so much success apparent throughout the whole exhibit—overall, the evening was a total tribute to the team at Vogue Italia.

The retrospective will be available for viewing throughout Milan Fashion Week spring/summer 2020. Want to see more from Milan Fashion Week? Check out the runway shows, front row looks and street style snaps direct from the northern Italian city’s offering.
