WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Saturday Night Live cast weighed in on the Joe Biden controversy Saturday night, with Hollywood comedian Jason Sudeikis portraying the former vice president as he goes through sensitivity training. In the sketch, Biden hugs his aides and even touches one man’s head.

The aides tell Biden they need to have a talk about “all the touchy-feely stuff,” which Biden doesn’t believe is an issue.

“If you’re really going to run in 2020 you have to change the way you interact with women,” another aide says.

Sudeikis’ Biden tries to explain away his behavior.

“Ok, look, look, look. You guys know that I’m a tactful politician, right? I’m a hugger, I’m a kisser, and I’m a little bit of a sniffer,” Sudeikis says. “But the last thing I ever want to do is offend anyone.”

That’s when the aides say they’ve brought in a consultant to help him with the issue. When the consultant, played by Kate McKinnon, enters the room, Biden shakes her hand, touches her shoulders and wraps both of his hands around her head. His nose comes uncomfortably close to hers as he rests his forehead on hers for an extended period of time.

“Yeah, so this is exactly the kind of thing I’m here to prevent,” the consultant says.

Biden tells the room it’s OK for him to do “the nose thing.” He did a genetic test and is 1 percent Eskimo.

“I’m allowed to do the kisses,” he says, referring to a nose rub.

When the consultant tells him that ideally there are no hugs or kisses between two strangers, Sudeikis’ Biden doubles down.

“It’s the human connection,” he says. “That’s my whole thing. That’s like telling Mario Batalli to take his Crocs off. You know?”

The sketch comes amid increased scrutiny on the real Biden’s history of touching women in the era of #MeToo. The issue has raised questions about whether the 76-year-old is a relic of a bygone era and out of touch with voters. On Friday, the former vice president cracked jokes during a speech to electrical workers that he had “permission” to hug a union leader and later a boy he invited onto the stage.
