Just when we thought Jennifer Lopez was straying from her romantic comedy roots, the triple-threat talent came back at us with a film that is sure to have us in hysterics and pluck at our heart strings, in a couture wardrobe, no less.

In the follow-up to her most recent film, Hustlers—which sees her as the ringleader of a merry band of exotic dancers—Lopez swapped out oversized sunglasses, hoop earrings and a lower lip piercing for a couture Zuhair Murad bridal gown, which the actress was spotted in while filming scenes on the streets of New York City for her new movie, Marry Me.

Based on a graphic novel by Bobby Crosby of the same name, the plot centres around pop singer, Kat Valdes (Lopez), who is set to wed her equally famous fiancé at Madison Square Garden. We’re not sure about you, but this plot is starting to sound a little familiar. Of course, Lopez herself is set to wed her own partner of two years, former pro-baseballer, Alex Rodriguez, who we can all agree shares a similar level of fame with his fiancé.

However, considering what soon ensues, we’re almost sure that this is where the plot similarities end. According to Variety, moments before marrying her famous fiancé, Valdes finds out that he cheated on her with her assistant.

In what sounds like a wedding/concert hybrid, the singer then breaks down on stage after hearing of the devastating news. She then proceeds to pick a random man out of the crowd, who was there to witness the wedding, and marries him instead. The unsuspecting man being a mathematics teacher named Charlie Gilbert, played by Owen Wilson.

With the film still in production, we haven’t learned much else about Lopez’s new rom-com, but the actress is well-versed starring as the bride after roles in notable films from the same genre, The Wedding Planner and Monster-in-Law. But, what we have gotten a glimpse at is her character’s breathtaking bridal gown—courtesy of costume designer and stylist Rob Zangardi—which was plucked directly from Zuhair Murad’s autumn 2019 couture runway.

According to Vogue US, Murad imagined the dress worn by Lopez as the dress that brides dream about, a dress that, in itself, would be enough of a reason to marry. According to the publication, the ivory gown features an abstract floral-carpet pattern in tonal crystals and sequins that, according to the designer himself, was designed with a real-life princess in mind.

Designed in his Beirut atelier, Murad called on a number of inspirations such as a recent trip to Marrakech, along with ‘70s era Yves Saint Laurent, and combined them to make pieces which borrowed from the colours and tile and carpet motifs, transposing it all onto metres of bejewelled, sequined silk chiffon and taffeta.

Of course, there’s little-to-no chance of Lopez revealing her wedding day outfit before walking down the aisle, but given the intended wearer of said gown, we can only imagine her real-life bridal gown will be equally as opulent, and most definitely couture.
