The Duchess of Cambridge’s secret photography skills have been hiding in plain sight for years. When the Cambridges release new photos of their children, Prince George, five, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one, the photographer isn’t a professional, but rather their mum, Kate Middleton.
Indeed, Middleton, 37, is such a keen and skilled photographer that her talent and passion has been recognised by her grandmother-in-law, The Queen.
The palace recently announced that Her Majesty has passed on a very special patronage to Middleton, the role of patron for The Royal Photographic Society. The Cambridges tweeted the announcement on their official Twitter account, @KensingtonRoyal, noting that The Queen has been the patron of the society — which was founded in 1853 — for 67 years.
A second post from the Cambridges shared further details of the patronage and why Middleton was selected to take on the role: “The Duchess of Cambridge has a longstanding interest in photography, and her patronage of @The_RPS will further highlight the beneficial impact that art and creativity have on emotional wellbeing, particularly for children and young people.”
As part of her new role, the duchess attended a photography workshop run by the Royal Photographic Society and Action for Children yesterday where, according to , the duchess not only shared her expert advice with the children at the workshop on taking great snaps, but also how she’s passed on her love of photography to her own kids.
“Just look at everything around you. Maybe it’s in front of you, or far away but choose your subject and focus in on it,” Middleton advised, adding, “Get outside with your camera as well. [Prince] George and [Princess] Charlotte love it when we do that.”
Recent examples of the duchess’s photography skills are by way of the official portraits Kensington Palace released in honour of Prince Louis’s first birthday and Princess Charlotte’s fourth birthday portraits — all the sweet snaps were taken by the duchess.
