Kim Kardashian West hires the woman she helped free from prison to model for Skims Solutionwear

Last year, Kim Kardashian West helped free convicted drug trafficker, Alice Marie Johnson, 64, from prison after Johnson had spent 21 years behind bars.

Kardashian West, who is currently studying law, met with President Trump in 2018 to discuss Johnson’s release from prison. The discussion reportedly went well, because President Trump commuted Johnson’s life sentence and she was released.

But that wasn’t the end of Kardashian West and Johnson’s story. According to People, the 38-year-old has stayed in contact with Johnson, inviting Johnson’s family over for “a home-cooked meal in Calabasas” and the beauty entrepreneur also even reportedly penned the foreword in Johnson’s memoir, After Life: My Journey from Incarceration to Freedom. 

And now Kardashian West has taken another step in that relationship, asking Johnson to be part of the launch campaign for her new shapewear brand, Skims Solutionwear. 

In a newly-released video on the Skims Instagram account, Johnson stars in a “real women, real stories” video wearing the brand’s black sculpting bodysuit. People reports Kardashian West has more of these “real women, real stories” videos planned for the next three weeks, featuring “26 women sharing intimate stories about why they love their bodies, and how Skims enables them to feel their best”.

In the candid and touching video, Johnson introduces herself and what she’s wearing—“the sculpting bodysuit”— and then tells her story about how Kardashian West helped her.“I was serving a life plus 25-years sentence without the possibility of parole. Kim saw a video of me. She heard my story, she said ‘this is so unfair’. And by the way, I didn’t know who Kim Kardashian was. She went to war for me to fight for my freedom, that’s why I call her my ‘war angel’, because nothing stood between her and my freedom. I was set free on June the 6th 2018 and now every moment in life is precious to me,” Johnson says in the video.

Johnson continues on to say that wearing the Skims bodysuit gives her the confidence to “walk into the store [and] pick up something that I normally wouldn’t think about wearing and I can put it on, and [know] it’s going to look great on me.”

Despite a slightly rocky start to Kardashian West’s shapewear brand after she faced backlash for naming it Kimono — she recently revealed the new name Skims Solutionwear — from Johnson’s video, it looks like the brand is back on track to do what Kardashian West promised in a previous Instagram post. In the post, the entrepreneur wrote she wanted to create “shapewear and solutions for women that actually work”.
