LAF 4th leg: Le Cannet in the spotlight

June 22, 2020 Off By HotelSalesCareers

15th of November brought a lot of thrill in the French League. Experienced RC Cannes shut out Béziers, Le Cannet cruised an away win over last week’s first place, Mulhouse. The other winning teams this weekend: Nantes VB, Paris St-Cloud and Vannes for the first time this season.

By far the most expected game of the weekend disputed in Mulhouse, where Elisabeth Fedele (18 points) and their team mates took 3 points, scoring important away victory and climbing on the fourth place. Mulhouse, on the other hand, fell down from last week’s pole position right to the fifth place, only 3 points away from Nantes, the team that currently tops the charts.

The biggest surprise in the opening leg of Champions League last week, when they had almost defeated Azeryol Baku, Nantes VB managed to consolidate their first position, scoring an away victory against the last placed Le Hainaut: 1-3 (24-26, 25-21, 18-25, 11-25). Forced to play without last week’s best spiker – Sherri Williams, Sylvain Quinquis counted on Belgians Angie Bland and Els Vandesteene as well as American outside hitter, Ariel Turner, each scoring no less than 18 times for their team.

RC Cannes claimed an expected home victory against Béziers, not without conceding the opening set (3-1). Last week’s heroine against Nordmeccanica Piacenza, Juliann Faucette scored 19 kills against Béziers. RC Cannes is currently one point away from leader Nantes VB.

Stade Français Paris St-Cloud just routed underdogs from St-Raphaël in three straight sets while the other newly promoted team, Vannes, managed to score first victory in the first league (2-3). 24 points on Alessandra Guerra Franco’s counter brought Vannes a hard-fought victory against Venelles. In the second part of the board things are getting hazy: Terville Florange claimed a five sets’ victory against the Istres of Jean-Pierre Staelens (21-25, 25-16, 25-15, 22-25, 13-15) which bounced them on the 7th position.

SF Paris St-Cloud 3-0 St-Raphaël (25-23, 25-21, 25-15)

Mulhouse 1-3 Le Cannet (20-25, 19-25, 25-23, 22-25)

Hainaut 1-3 Nantes (24-26, 25-21, 18-25, 11-25)

Venelles 2-3 Vannes (23-25, 18-25, 25-14, 25-23, 11-15)

Cannes 3-1 Béziers (23-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-18)

Istres 2-3 Terville-Florange (21-25, 25-16, 25-15, 22-25, 13-15)
