Lara Worthington on what to look out for when buying vintage pieces
Lara Worthington certainly has enviable style that we all want to copy. From new season Australian designer pieces to high end vintage items, Worthington knows how to mix and match like a pro and that’s partly why her wardrobe is so covetable. We have good news for fashion fans – you can literally own a piece of Worthington’s wardrobe, as the model has launched a charity sale in partnership with Vestiaire Collective made up of a curated collection of 28 pieces from her wardrobe.
“Every woman knows there are some pieces you love to wear again and again, and others that feel great for a few outings and then you feel ready to pass them on,” Worthington told . “I based my selection on items I loved wearing, and that I know will be enjoyed by others. And pieces that are standouts or special enough to attract new owners and therefore some funds for the charities.”
As for the charities, 100 per cent of the collection sales will be donated evenly to three Share The Base charity partners. If you’re not familiar, Worthington runs a not-for-profit business called Share The Base, which was originally her skincare brand and is now a charity – all proceeds of sales go to one of three organisations. “With our united mission to give back, Vestiaire Collective came to me about this charity sale and I saw the perfect opportunity to raise awareness of the Share The Base charity partners,” Worthington said. “Fashion has been a big part of my life for some time, and Vestiaire is about giving fashion a second wind and helping to reduce consumption.”
“I’d been looking for a way to give back and do more for others,” she adds of Share The Base. “It made sense to refine my brand The Base down to the best seller (LB Cream) which I knew would continue to generate sales, and eventually a nice sum to pass on to those [charities] in need. We had it in planning since 2017 and launched early this year – so it was a thought out decision which required a lot of time, preparation and paperwork!”
Before you get shopping, Worthington takes us through the charities in detail. “Bowel Cancer Australia was a natural choice given my father’s passing. WWF have so many clever initiatives (stay tuned) and I’ve always loved and been connected to nature so it felt right. And Humpty Dumpty tugged at my heart strings the most – I visited their neonatal ward in North Sydney and was overcome with emotion. I knew I had to do whatever possible to help.”

“A vintage silk YSL gown with feathers; I had the seams taken in quite a bit, and it had white feathers in amongst the black ones so I plucked each white one out by hand, for a sleeker look. In the end it worked really well and I felt special wearing it. Plus the fact it was already 15 plus years old – it’s something I will always treasure.”
“Investment-wise, pieces from iconic designer eras like Tom Ford at Gucci, Phoebe Philo at Chloé, Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga and so on – those become classics that will always be treasured and sought after.”
“The same way you might grow out of a ‘look’ as you get older, I think you grow out of fashion pieces sometimes. I used to love things that were a little more embellished or detailed and now I live in classic, subtle pieces. When you reach a point with an item that you can’t see yourself loving in the future, it’s time to pass it on.”
