Major Name Reveals He’s Been Talking to Vince McMahon About a Possible WWE Comeback

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross sat down with both Jerry “The King” Lawler and Dave Bautista on this week’s edition of his podcast, The Ross Report. During the interview, Big Dave dropped a bombshell in revealing that he’s actually been talking to Vince McMahon about a possible return to WWE!

“I’ve talked to Vince recently. He knows what I want, and I’ve made it very clear that I wanted to go back and run a program with [Triple H]. I’ve been very public about it, and I think that’s the thing that would get me back.”

Bautista, now 48, stated that not only would he “love to go back” to the company that on six occasions crowned him world champion, but the thing keeping him from doing so is that he refuses to be just another one-off appearance for the “cheap pop”.

“I would love to go back, but the reason I have not gone back is because I don’t want to do a one-off. I want to wrestle. I want to do some house shows, and I want to be a part of the program, man. I love it. The one-off thing, the ‘cheap pop’ thing just doesn’t do anything for me.”

“The Animal” did return to the ring in 2014 for a short run, which began with him winning the annual Royal Rumble match to earn his place in the main event of WrestleMania 30. Dave has publicly expressed frustration with that return, both with regards to how WWE handled his booking and the fans’ collective decision to turn on him in favor of Daniel Bryan. Despite that, he maintains that he’s still on great terms with the company.”

“I’ve never burnt that bridge, and it’s because I still love wrestling and everybody in WWE has always been really good to me. I have my gripes with the company, which I’m sure everybody does, but at the same time I don’t ever disrespect the company intentionally. I didn’t leave there under bad circumstances, I left just because I wanted to pursue other things. I didn’t walk out on them, I let my contract run out and they knew I was going to be leaving.”

As for a future return to ring, Bautista is confident that he wants it to happen, but currently “it’s a matter of scheduling.” Since leaving WWE in 2014 he has gone on to become something of a Hollywood mega star, landing a role in the 2015 James Bond movie Spectre and stealing the show as “Drax the Destroyer” in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. He will reprise the character in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War which hits theaters May 2018, but says he’ll finish out this year shooting parts for a second Avengers movie the Disney-owned company is filming back-to-back.
