RICHLAND, WA – Anthony Ackers might be the funniest fugitive in America.

In a series of curt Facebook comments, he reassured police he would turn himself in. When police asked where he was, he took a picture of himself ringing the doorbell at the Richland police department’s front door.

“Here for our date sweetheart!” he wrote when he posted the photo.

The exchange began on Nov. 28 when Richland police posted a photo of Akers. He was featured in a “Wanted Wednesday” post for failing to comply with the state Department of Corrections. The first person to comment on the post was Akers.

“Calm down, I’m going to turn myself in,” he replied.

After a few days, Akers failed to show up. So police went back to Facebook to connect with him.

“Dear Anthony, is it us? Last Wednesday we reached out to you as “wanted”. You replied and even said you were going to turn yourself in. We waited, but you didn’t show. After you stood us up, we reached out again- this time offering you a ride. You replied and said you needed 48 hours. The weekend came and went. We are beginning to think you are not coming,” they wrote Dec. 3.
