Marseille not interested in Belgian forward Dries Mertens

According to La Provence, Olympique de Marseille are not interested in current free-agent Dries Mertens (35) – those at the club have denied any attempt to sign the player,  who is suspected of trying to raise the stakes in a deal to resign with Napoli. Lazio are also interested in signing the 105-capped Belgian international. 

The rumour mill had been running around OM for several days surrounding Mertens – as It was reported by Foot Mercato earlier this month that the agents and lawyer of the Belgian forward had travelled to Marseille to negotiate with OM on a potential move to Ligue 1. It was said that the contract length was an issue for the two parties involved. 

Mertens is now a free-agent after leaving Napoli at the end of his contract at the end of last month. He spent 9 years at the Italian club and became the team’s all-time league top-scorer with 113 goals to his name.
