Mavericks Begin 2014-15 With Luther Open

MANKATO, Minn. — Minnesota State wrestling kicks off the 2014-15 season at the Luther College Open Saturday in Decorah, Iowa.

Newcomers Da’Wayne Robertson (Jr., 125 lbs.) and Malcolm Allen (Jr., 285 lbs.) will get their first taste of competition as a Maverick at the Open. Both are transfers from junior colleges with National Junior College Athletic Association regional championship experience.

Last season at the Luther College Open, Darick Vancura (So., 174 lbs.) placed first and collected four falls in all four of his matches. Sawyer Hoffman (Jr., 157 lbs.) placed fourth and Alphonso Vruno (Jr., 141 lbs.) placed sixth. Two years ago, Drew Lexvold (Jr., 149 lbs.) was a runner up.

Following the Luther College Open, next action for the Mavericks is the Concordia (Wis.) Open Nov. 22.
