As every die-hard Miu Miu fan knows, pop floral prints are a part of the label’s summertime DNA (see, for example, Kate Moss’ spring/summer 1996 catwalk look). And today’s show, on the final day of Paris Fashion Week, saw mood-lifting blooms return for spring/summer 2020 – albeit subject to an artistic revision and the free rein of creative expression.

Hand-painted florals – complete with smudged paint dabs, splatters and flicks, as if fresh from the painter’s brush – adorned a collection that ventured inside the artist’s studio.

Kaia Gerber took to the chipboard catwalk in blood-red snake-print knee-highs and a stiffened satin pinafore dress-cum-artist’s canvas; the slate gray background hosting delicate pale blue, green and white floral motifs, in between abstract brushstrokes. Note also, the elegantly arched, ruffled trims that gently exaggerate the shoulders.

From rippled hemlines to side-split pencil skirts, undulating frills lent a mood of airy glamour. Bella Hadid modelled a crisp peplum crop-top, layered over a mini mohair cardigan – a look that’s guaranteed to inspire fashion’s ongoing love affair with the elevated knit (and a sure sign it’s set to continue well into the new season). Elsewhere, a sculptural cocktail dress in a sanguine shade of tangerine sorbet (paired with fire-engine red knee boots) cast a clean, wave-like silhouette.

Meanwhile, the flowers continued to bloom. Homespun floral collages decorated raw-canvas sundresses and wooden wedge heels, which were inscribed with graphical wildflowers – pitching the blossoming look from head to toe.
