More on the Possibility of WWE Buying Out Ring of Honor

  • There had been rumors going around over the last few weeks of Sinclair Broadcasting discussing some sort of deal with WWE and it came to the point where some ROH talent approached management about it. However, the company denied it, saying there have been no talks and nothing has changed as far as their business goes.

  • One major key to any prospective deal is the ROH tape library which WWE covets since it would have early matches of many of their current top stars, including Samoa Joe, Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles and others.

  • WWE initially made their first inquiry to purchase ROH back in the summer of 2016 and at that time, the feeling was that they wanted more than just the tape library. The question remained whether WWE had or has plans to continue to run ROH as an independent promotion or shut it down like they would have done with TNA if that deal went through.

  • Finally, WWE would see any purchase or buyout as beneficial to the company as it would allow them to keep the pay down for any up-and-coming rising stars in the industry by effectively taking away alternatives.
