Moxie Spotlight: Ana and Taylor

Today, we’re chatting with Ana and Taylor, a wonderful couple who used Flower Moxie for their DIY wedding flowers. Ana and Taylor wanted to add a personal touch to their special day, and DIY flowers were the perfect choice. They’re here to share their experience, tips, and what they loved most about creating their own wedding flowers.
What was your favorite part about DIYing?
We really enjoyed being able to design how we would place the floral arrangements throughout the venue as well as the creativity that went into actually making the arrangements. Even though our flower moxie consultant put together the recipes for us, being able to play with how the flowers went to together was very satisfying. We were also very proud to be able to say that we had done our flowers ourselves.

Why did you choose to DIY your flowers?
The biggest reason was budget, but we were also encouraged because Ana’s mom told stories about how she loved putting together the flowers for her own wedding because it was a great chance for the two families to get to know each other especially since they were from different states which was also the case for us.
Who did you have help from?
A lot of family and we were so grateful. Ana’s mom and sisters were there to help every step of the way and as Taylor’s family arrived from out of state, they jumped in to help as well. Between Thursday and Friday before the wedding we probably had about 15 different people contribute.

Where did you get married and why did you choose this location?
We got married in Monterey. We wanted to be by the water and Monterey was too far from where we lived. We also just loved the venue as well as the fact that it was on the edge of downtown Monterey and we were able to walk back to hotel after the wedding.

Was it a destination wedding?
I’d call it a semi destination wedding. We and all of our guests ended up getting a hotel or air bnbs, but we were only a two hour drive from home.
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
We really loved our ceremony. We had one of Ana’s family friends officiate, wrote our own vows, and started a memory box, all of which felt very special to us. We also loved seeing all of our friends and family get to know each other and have such a great night together.

In hindsight, is there anything you would have done differently?
It’s hard to say… Everything went really well and we loved our day. We wish the weeks leading up to the wedding felt less stressful, but we’re not sure what we could have done differently since we were pretty organized throughout the planning process.
Tips for future DIYers?
Definitely practice a couple of arrangements before hand. It helped us build confidence as well as get excited for the real thing. Laundry baskets were great for transportation. Especially with our large order, taking the time to organize all of the recipes before your helpers get there helped things go so much more smoothly. Taylor, Ana, and her sisters did this for a few hours which made it possible to just hand helpers a bucket of flowers that was ready to become arrangement.

Were there any funny or strange mishaps you can share?
The wrong bucket of flowers got given to the cake vendor, but they did a gorgeous job of arranging them anyway. One thing we definitely learned was that your vendors know what they are doing and it will all work out. A deer also tried to come eat our flowers at one point while we were working.

How did you add personalized touches to your day?
We had boutonierres for Ana’s dads that had passed away (one when she was 5 and then also her step dad about 4 years ago).
We hid korok seeds (which were little bags of candy) around our venue which was a reference to Legend of Zelda since both of us enjoy video games.
The memory box during our ceremony was great becuase we each picked out a few items from our relationship so far and added them to the box. Over time we will be able to add to the box as well.
Which part of your day are you most proud of?
For sure the flowers since that’s what we put the most time and effort into. We learned a lot and felt like everything came out great.

Anything else you would like to add?
We cannot stress enough how grateful we are to our families for all of their help. We both only ended up doing a couple of arrangements ourselves, and everyone else took care of the rest. They were amazing and it really did work out as a wonderful way for our families to get closer!
Ana and Taylor’s wedding was beautiful and full of personal touches, thanks to their DIY flowers from Flower Moxie. They had a lot of fun putting everything together and made great memories along the way. If you’re thinking about doing your own wedding flowers, Ana and Taylor’s story shows that it can be a rewarding and special part of your big day. Thank you, Ana and Taylor, for sharing your gorgeous day with us!
