– It’s opening night for the 2018 New Japan Cup, the annual tournament where nearly anything can happen and we’ve almost come to expect a few major upsets in the opening round. We’ve got our first two Cup matches at the top of the card, with five undercard bouts to set up this weekend’s action.
– Looks like Kevin Kelly is going solo on English commentary for this one.
HIROOKI GOTO, CHUCK TAYLOR & TORU YANO def. SHOTA UMINO, TOMOYUKI OKA & TETSUHIRO YAGI
The CHAOS boys took turns working over Yagi for most of the match. The crowd loved Yano despite him being a bit more reserved than usual. He did manage to throw Yagi into an exposed turnbuckle, but that was really his only shenanigan. The Young Lions built up a hot tag to the bigger Oka who ran through everybody like a freight train, trading some brutal slaps with Goto. A brawl broke out and Chuckie T got the pinfall with the Awful Waffle in a fun opener.

Nothing pretty here, that’s for sure. Archer came out spitting water on everybody, and even took a towel or some kind of protection from a group of fans and spit directly on them. Rude. Most of the match was just a brawl between four big hosses all over the venue, with KES trying and failing to get Fale up for any of their big moves. They eventually settled for a Killer Elite Bomb on Loa, got the pin and beat up some Young Boys on the way out for good measure.
– Chuck Taylor came out and joined Kevin Kelly on commentary for the rest of the show.
