No. 15 Augustana opens up conference play against Northern State

No. 15 Augustana (7-2) starts off Conference dual season this weekend. The Vikings will take on Northern State (4-3). The dual is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. in the Elmen Center.

Series History
This is the 10th time since 2008 the Vikings and the Wolves will face off against each other. Augustana has won the past nine matches. The Vikings have won the past nine meetings by an average of 34-8. Augustana and Northern State faced-off against each other earlier this year at the S.D. Showcase. The Vikings won seven matches to gain the 31-12 victory over the Wolves.

Augustana ranked in the top-20
Augustana dropped to No. 15 in this weeks top-20 Wrestling Coaches Association poll. All-American and two-time national runner-up TJ North comes in ranked No. 2 in the 125 pound Aero Amo moved up to No. 7 in 184 pounds, Michael Lowman stayed at No .5 at 285 pounds. Augustana comes in at No. 6 in the NCAA Super Region 3 Rankings. TJ North (2nd, 125 pounds), Aero Amo (2nd, 184) and Michael Lowman (2nd, 285) all come in ranked in the Super Region 3 Rankings.

Vikings go 1-1 over the weekend
The Vikings returned from the Holiday break to take on Concordia-Moorhead and Augsburg. First off Augustana defeated the Cobbers 26-12. Logan Henning (197 Pounds) got the Vikings on the board first with a 6-4 decision over Jake Briggs. Henning improves to 3-0 dual record on the season. Michael Lowman (285 Pounds) kept it going with a 13-3 major decision over Kody Van Den Eykel. This is Lowman’s third major decision victory of the season.Brandon Charbonneau (141 Pounds) would score a 12-3 major decision over Karl Keeler. Jacob Anderson (149 pounds) would get a 4-2 decision over Ty Johnson. Ben Goodwin (165 Pounds) had a hard fought match against Christian Stutzman. Stutzman got an escape to bring the match to 3-2 in the third period, when Goodwin would get a takedown late in the match to get the 5-2 decision. The Vikings would get two first period pins in the last two matches by Ben Goodwin (174 pounds) and Aero Amo (184 Pounds) to help secure the 26-12 victory.

The Vikings would then travel to Minneapolis to take on Augsburg College. Augustana would lose to the Auggies 25-21. Brandon Charbonneau (141 pounds) got Augustana on the board with a 7-3 decision over Aaron Wilson. Jacob Anderson (149 pounds) continued the momentum for Augustana, pinning Marcus Hamer in one minute and 52 seconds. Aero Amo (184 pounds) got a pin late in the third period over Sebastian Larson to cut the Augsburg lead to 19-18. Clayton Wahlstrom (197 Pounds) got a 5-4 decision over Logan Hortop. Michael Lowman (285 Pounds) would get pinned late in the third period by Donny Longendyke. Lowman was down most of the match, until he scored two takedowns in the third and tried score one more takedown to get the decision victory before Longendyke got the takedown and the pin.
