No New Subsidies For Private EV Buyers, Govt. Looking To Boost Public Transport Network

Sale of personal cars in India should take a back seat and efforts should be made to invigorate public transport and shared mobility that runs on clean energy, the government said on Thursday.

However, while promoting clean energy solution, the government said that special incentives for electric vehicles are not required.

“With GST on EVs at 12 per cent, I don’t think there is any further need for a subsidy… we need to think innovatively to bring in that (electric) environment,” transport minister Nitin Gadkari said at an event organised by industry body, Siam.
