Oles open season at Luther Open

DECORAH, Iowa – The St. Olaf College wrestling team opened its 2018-19 season at the Luther College Open on Saturday.

In the 125-pound elite bracket, Luke Wallace was pinned by Brady Wilsie of Coe at 1:07 in his first match before dropping a 5-1 decision to Minnesota State Mankato’s Lucas Hagel in the consolation bracket.

Bryant Ridgway was defeated by Upper Iowa’s Mac Spotts by technical fall, 16-0, at 3:44 in the 157-pound elite bracket and lost a 7-3 decision to Wyatt Bice of UW-Whitewater in the consolation round.

After a first-round bye in the 149-pound silver bracket, Jack Ridgway lost via fall at 1:56 to Drew Scharenbrock of the University of Wisconsin but rebounded by pinning Cornell’s Chandler Bowling at 3:26 in the consolation round. He then dropped a 9-3 decision to UW-La Crosse’s Chris Healy in the fourth round of the consolation bracket.

Also in the 149-pound silver bracket, Joaquin Montero was pinned by Cooper Siebrecht of Minnesota State Mankato at 0:55 after a first-round bye. He was then pinned by Cornell’s Reilly Dolan at 0:46 in the consolation bracket.

Competing in the 157-pound silver bracket, Adam Bass lost by fall at 0:24 to Brody Nielsen of Minnesota State Mankato in the opening round and then went down by fall to Iowa State’s Bill Condon at 1:12 in the consolation round.
