Police apprehend 17-year-old high schooler for burglary of PSG’s Sergio Rico

Le Journal du Dimanche are reporting that a 17-year-old Parisian high schooler has been apprehended on Wednesday following PSG Spanish goalkeeper Sergio Rico’s burglary. On November 13th, PSG defeated Auxerre (5-0) for its last game before the World Cup. An unused substitute, Rico went home with his partner in the afternoon after the win. He then caught the burglar in the act, forcing him to drop his backpack full of spoils. It contained jewels and four luxury watches worth of 35 000 €.

But more importantly, a cell phone was found in the backpack. The crime unit the discovere that the burglar had filmed himself with said phone during the theft. Previously known to police services, the 17-year-old was identified through DNA analysis found on scene. Apprenhended and put in police custody, the young burglar confessed to the burglary. He has been released under judicial supervision and will stand trial next May in juvenile court.

Burglary of players’ homes have been a common issue for PSG in the last few years. In March 2021, burglars targeted, on the same night, the homes of Ángel Di María’s and Marquinhos’ father.
