Shay Mitchell from Pretty Little Liars is pregnant with her first child

Shay Mitchell, star of Pretty Little Liars and You, has announced some exciting news: she’s currently pregnant!

In an Instagram post on June 28, Shay shared a photo of her partially nude, clearly pregnant body, along with the caption, “Does this mean I’m allowed to drive in the car pool lane at all times now?” The comments section is already filled with congratulations, including from her PLL co-star and love interest, Sasha Pieterse, who responded with several smiling emojis. Other celebs like Lauren Jauregui, Josephine Skriver, and Sophia Bush also chimed in with happy tidings for her news.

Shay also linked to a YouTube Originals video that elaborates on her exciting news (you can watch it below). “When you’re in the public eye there are some things you want to keep a secret until you feel ready,” she says in the video, which she filmed along with partner of several years, Matte Babel. “This for me has been the hardest. It’s gonna be really fun and awesome when I’m not trying to hide it anymore.”

She also talked about some of the more difficult parts of the pregnancy: “I think pregnancy is awesome for the most part. But it’s also really f*cking lonely … It didn’t feel right to just put a up a photo and be like ‘I’m pregnant” and have people think that everything is peaches and rainbows.”

The announcement comes just a few months after she opened up about how some of her “darkest days” were in 2018, when she experienced a miscarriage.

“We all have to deal with various struggles and challenges in life,” she wrote on Instagram in January. “The support and affection that so many of you show me lifts me up during even my darkest days, one of which happened last year after I miscarried and lost the child of my hopes and dreams.” She ended with a message of hope, “For 2019, let’s all try to be a little more compassionate, empathetic, patient and thoughtful with each other.”

Shay’s video announcement also functions as a trailer for her upcoming biweekly YouTube Original Series titled Almost Ready, which will premiere every other Wednesday beginning July 17, 2019.
