Shoppers favour Westfield over West-end
The number of consumers visiting shopping districts in other areas of London slumped by over a quarter over the first week of Westfield’s opening, according to data compiled for The Sunday Telegraph.
Customer numbers in Oxford Street, Regent Street, South Molton Street and Bond Street fell by 25.2pc between Thursday October 30, the day that Westfield opened, and November 5 compared with the year before, according to figures from Synovate, a company that measures customer footfall.
Sales on Kensington High Street, Knightsbridge, Kings Road and Sloane Street fell by 25.1pc. The dramatic drop in footfall is being seen as a direct result of Westfield opening. Tim Denison, director of knowledge management at Synovate, said: “The figures certainly show that the West End was hit hard.”
