Stay in an 18th-century palazzo with views of Rome
Rocco Forte Hotels do not do things by halves. Their iconic London establishment, Brown’s Hotel, also happens to be one of the city’s most expensive. When refurbishing their Hotel Savoy property in Florence, they collaborated with a local fashion house known for dressing A-list celebrities: Pucci. Their newest offering, Hotel de la Ville, is an 18th-century palazzo in the heart of Rome with sweeping views of the city.

The interiors of Hotel de la Ville were inspired by the grand tours nobles took in the 18th century – on these trips, they would travel to great European cities to browse and buy art. With this as a starting point, Italian architect Tommaso Ziffer designed the new hotel (including its interior) in collaboration with Olga Polizzi, director of design for Rocco Forte Hotels.

The lavish nature of noble life in the 18th century is beautifully captured throughout the interiors in Hotel de la Ville. Wallpapers are handmade by local designers Rubelli and Dedar. Fabrics and tapestries are from Rome-based artisans Zardi & Zardi.

With 104 spacious rooms and suites to choose from, attention must be drawn to the hotel’s finest offering, Suite de la Ville on the top floor (pictured above). Accessible by private elevator, it boasts two panoramic terraces and a stunning collection of art and furniture.

By fusing three buildings into one, Hotel de la Ville has created a relaxing courtyard at its centre where guests can take refuge from the bustling streets of Rome. With pretty black and white umbrellas, green topiary and elegant lighting, the space is a credit to its designer, George Carter.

“Rome will forever be one of the top destinations in the world for both business and leisure travellers,” says Sir Rocco Forte, chairman and CEO of Rocco Forte Hotels. “It embodies the intricacies and wonders of Italy throughout the ages whilst being perfectly contemporary. I am so proud of Hotel de la Ville, it has all the vibrancy and elegance of this extraordinary city.”
