"The Wrestler" Wins Big At The Golden Globe Awards
It was a big night for the hit film “The Wrestler” at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards.
Mickey Rourke won the Golden Globe award for Best Lead Actor in a Drama for his portrayal of Randy “The Ram” Robinson. Rourke beat out some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Brad Pitt (
(“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,”) Leonardo DiCaprio (“Revolutionary Road,”) Sean Penn (“Milk”) and Frank Langella (“Frost/Nixon”).
During Rourke accepatance speech, he started goofing on director Darren Arronovsky, who gave Mickey the middle finger. There were a few colorful words that were censored during the show but Arronovsky’s hand guesture made it on the air.
— Bruce Springsteen’s song “The Wrestler” picked up the Golden Globe for Best Original Song.
Overall it was a great night for the film. The next stop is the 81st Academy Awards, which takes place on Sunday, February 22, 2009, at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California. Nominations for the show will be announced on Thursday, January 22.
