West Ham & Sunderland enter the race for Mathieu Debuchy

Premier League duo Sunderland & West Ham have entered into the race to sign Arsenal right-back Mathieu Debuchy on loan until the end of the season.

Sunderland have made initial contacts with the relevant parties about a possible move, according to Sky Sports.

West Ham United, according to Foot Mercato, will enter into talks with Arsenal about the possible signing of the Frenchman after it emerged that Carl Jenkinson is out injured until the end of the season.

Jenkinson’s injury however might deter a move for Mathieu Debuchy from an Arsenal perspective.

It had been believed that Arsenal would recall Carl Jenkinson from West Ham so that they would have cover for Hector Bellerin in the event of a Mathieu Debuchy departure.

West Ham prepared themselves for this by signing young right-back Sam Byram from Leeds United last week.

Now that Jenkinson is out injured until the end of the season, Arsenal might pull the plug on the possible January departure of Mathieu Debuchy.

Aston Villa remain in pole to secure the Frenchman’s services, but in the final days of the transfer window, anything can happen.
