WWE 205 Live Results (04/03): Drew Gulak vs Mark Andrews
The show opens up with an announcement that Hideo Itami and Akira Tozawa will get a chance to settle their issues with Lucha House Party when they face Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado later tonight. We also get an announcement hyping up Buddy Murphy’s Match and a special preview of Sunday’s Title Tournament final in New Orleans.
Vic Joseph and Nigel McGuinness welcome us to the show as we get to the first match of the night.
Akira Tozawa & Hideo Itami vs. Lince Dorado & Gran Metalik: Itami and Metalik start off with Itami talking some trash as he kicks away at Metalik. Itami shoves Dorado in the face as the two continue jawing at each other. Metalik walks the ropes and hits a missile dropkick. Dorado tags in and he drops Itami, then he goes for a cover, but only a two count. Tozawa tags in and hits a running kick followed by a senton. Metalik with the quick roll-up, but only a two count. Metalik tries for a handspring off the ropes but gets kicked in the back. Itami sends Dorado off the apron and Itami & Tozawa goes to work on Metalik in the corner. Itami goes for a cover, but only a two count. Itami keeps eyeing Dorado as he tags out. Tozawa with a straight jab to Metalik’s face, then goes for a pin, but only a two count. Dorado gets tagged in then he knocks Tozawa off the apron and trades strikes with Itami. Dorado with a springboard moonsault off the second rope and continues swinging away on his opponent. Itami gets knocked to the floor. Dorado takes out Itami on the floor as Tozawa hits a suicide dive, and Metalik with a corkscrew senton taking out everyone. Metalik goes for a Metalik Driver, but Itami nearly yanks Metalik’s mask off and the match totally breaks down in the ring. The referee calls the match. Winner: No Contest
After the match, Itami takes out Dorado’s knee and Tozawa swings away on Metalik. They taunt a bit and head to the back.
We head backstage where Drew Gulak is being interviewed. He address allegations that he is playing mind games by asking for his match against Mark Andrews to be delayed so that he can recover from his match with Tony Nese. He says that that couldn’t be further from the truth. He says that wants Andrews at 100%. He was going to prepare an elaborate Powerpoint presentation to explain in detail why he kept the Dragon Sleeper/Gu-Lock on the Welshman after the bell. But he only needs one. Gulak calls for the monitor to show a slide saying “Because I could…” Drew promises to do the same to anyone who gets in the ring with him.
We get a promo from Mark Andrews saying that this isn’t about high-flying vs. mat/submission-based wrestling. Andrews says that Drew crossed a line in their tournament match, and next week it’s going to be Andrews vs. Gulak to prove the Cruiserweight Crusader messed with the wrong underdog.
We head backstage where we see Drake Maverick telling Tony Nese that despite losing last week, he wants him to go out to the ring tonight and remind everyone why he is the premiere athlete.
Tony Nese vs. Jonathan Pierce: Pierce with some early taunting as Nese tosses him into the corner. The referee tries to back Nese up as Pierce gets in a chop shot. Nese hits a back elbow and tries for a second rope moonsault. Nese dodges a clothesline, then hits a couple of kicks and sweeps his opponent to the ground. Nese hits a springboard into a second rope moonsault that lands clean. Pierce is out on the apron as he drops Nese’s neck over the top rope. Pierce then heads up to the top rope, but Nese hits a palm strike, followed by a kick, then drops Pierce stomach-first on his knee. Nese with a running nese in the corner, then goes for a cover and picks up the win. Winner: Tony Nese
We head backstage where we see that Kalisto is checking on Dorado and Metalik. As Kalisto leaves, he bumps right into Murphy. Murphy says that he plans on making the match quick and that Kalisto is simply in his way to get to the Cruiserweight Championship.
Buddy Murphy vs. Kalisto: Murphy towers over Kalisto as these two go back and forth with some quick cover attempts. A lot of counters from both wrestlers as neither wrestler is really getting any momentum. The crowd starts a “205” chant. Kalisto gets dumped out to the floor. Murphy chases him and puts him back in the ring. Kalisto with a headscissors. Kalisto heads up to the top rope and hits an arm drag. Kalisto fakes a dive to the outside as Murphy hops back in the ring. Murphy is finally able to slow Kalisto down. Kalisto locks in a sleeper hold, but Murphy jams him back into the corner and boots him in the face. Kalisto returns fire with a kick to the head, followed by a sit down senton, then hits a big tornado DDT. Kalisto then goes for a cover, but only a two count. Both men are on the apron. Murphy with a nasty running release suplex on the apron. Murphy gets Kalisto back in the ring and goes for a cover, but only a two count. Murphy fires Kalisto into the corner hard. Kalisto with a kick that puts Murphy down.
Murphy ends up out on the floor. Kalisto flips over the top rope and clears out Murphy. Kalisto tosses him back in and hits a basement-rana, then goes for a cover, but only gets a two and half. The crowd reacts to the kick out. Out on the floor, Kalisto ends up getting monkey flipped straight on the announce table. Commentary says that their monitors are out after that move. The referee starts to count and Kalisto gets in at 9 and 1/2. Murphy with a kick to Kalisto’s face, then goes for a cover, but only a two count. Murphy and Kalisto are both up on the top rope. Murphy gets dropped down on the turnbuckle. Kalisto hits a nice yoshi tonic, then goes for a cover, but only a two count. The crowd starts a “This is awesome,” “fight forever,” and “205” chant. Murphy is dazed. Murphy hits a Murphy’s law for the victory. Winner: Buddy Murphy
After the match, Murphy does the championship title taunt.
We head backstage where Drake Maverick talks about the last couple of weeks in 205 Live. Maverick gives props to Ali and Alexander for making it to WrestleMania. Maverick tells the WWE Universe to settle in early to see their match at WrestleMania and runs down some of the other matches on the card.
We get a recap of Drake Maverick becoming the new General Manager of 205 Live, the Cruiserweight Championship Tournament, and Alexander vs. Ali at WrestleMania. The show comes to a close.
