Season four of Netflix’s The Crown reportedly commenced filming in August this year (season three will launch on Netflix on November 17) but until now, we haven’t been privy to how the fourth season’s newest face—Emma Corrin as Princess Diana—would portray this iconic royal.
However, we now have our first look at newcomer Corrin as Princess Diana, and her resemblance to the late royal is uncanny to say the least.
The Daily Mail reports Corrin and Josh O’Connor—who plays Prince Charles in both season four and season three—were photographed filming a scene for the fourth season in Spain, and from the windswept blonde hair to the demure shyness Princess Diana was renowned for, Corrin’s portrayal of the “people’s princess” looks strikingly accurate.
Notably, the scene has a special significance for Australian fans of the show; the scene Corrin and O’Connor have been pictured filming is a recreation of Princess Diana and Prince Charles’s royal tour to Australia in 1983, when they visited Uluru. In the scene (which you can see by scrolling across the Instagram below), Corrin wears an almost identical white dress to that worn by Princess Diana during the real-life event and O’Connor looks the epitome of Prince Charles in a khaki two-piece safari suit.
This marks the first time that we’re seeing Corrin as Princess Diana, and also Corrin and O’Connor playing the royal couple in a scene together, and it looks like the casting is spot on.
Corrin was reportedly tapped to play the role after The Crown’s showrunner, Peter Morgan, sent out a casting called looking for a “staggeringly talented young actress” to take on the role of Princess Diana in the fourth season. The newcomer only has a handful of IMDb credits to her name and this role is set to be her break-out.
“Emma [Corrin] is a brilliant talent who immediately captivated us when she came in for the part of Diana Spencer,” Morgan reportedly told The Hollywood Reporter back in April when her casting was announced.
Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos reportedly said he hopes The Crown will span six decades over six seasons and with season three reportedly spanning the ‘60s and ‘70s, it looks as though season four will cover the tail end of the ‘70s and the ‘80s.

No date as yet has been announced for when season four will be on our screens, but with filming already underway, it looks likely to be sometime in 2020.
